The drought.

Bridalveil Falls in Yosemite - very dry :(

I've been feeling like a dry tree aching for water these past few months. Most days I am reminded of this with three trees I see each day, one strong healthy oak tree sitting between two sad sick oak trees. The strong tree is watered regularly and pruned with intention. The other two are ignored; no one waters them. Their branches curl up into them like old shriveled people ready to die. I feel so sad when I look at them. I dream of climbing the strong oak tree, but I'm waiting to get up the nerve. It reaches its arms out to the sky, like it has no fear. It looks free and wild, and ready to take on anything. I want to be like that tree.

Human energy.

Martha Stewart Crafts Shape Punch

I've been listening to old political podcasts from late 2011, when the Occupy Movement began, and people wanted to do something, make something happen. People were angry, fed up. I'm wondering where that energy went. I mean, energy cannot be extinguished, right? It's just converted, reintegrated.

Just as solar panels channel solar energy into electrical energy (this is so not my specialty), I wonder where human energy goes, the raw multidirectional energy that we need every day to survive. It isn't as simple as food and water. Human energy is created by human beings - emotional inertia created by need and want. It's what creates change: political change, social change.

I'm starting to wonder where that energy went. It couldn't have gone away, right? People still care, right? My hope is that it has become more organized, gone underground, and people are getting things done.

I dunno. I sure hope things are gonna get better soon.

All the water is pouring out.

What can I say? Sweat is pouring down my face, and I don't know if I can hydrate fast enough to replenish it. It reminds me of the jungle, so I should probably be paying more attention to my water intake than I am, or I may begin taking on water and looking swollen (not pretty, friends).

In Brazil, they drink hot drinks in an effort to stay cool. No matter how hard I try, I can't get on board that train. Hot just makes me more hot. I am currently sitting with a hot cup of coffee and becoming very aware of my American need for ice.

I was thinking about offering up an online dating update today, but my computer is on the fritz and I'm going to the Apple store in the mall (I know! Me at the mall!) to see if they can help me, and I need to leave right now.

Peace out :)
