Thrift is not black and white. Thrift is complicated. Not throwing things away might mean hanging on to things that you'd rather not see again. Thrift requires that you put thought into disposal.
I am black and white, all or nothing. I want what I want when I want it, and thrift has forced me to think differently. I have to see behind damage and look to the true potential of a thing. I have to wait for what I want instead of getting it right away. It has made me more patient, more creative, and more caring.
But it has also made me more rigid. Sometimes I feel like I'm owed what I want because getting what I want has become so difficult. Sometimes I imagine choosing between a man I love and wearing used clothing. Sometimes I look disapprovingly at people who don't live as I do, who don't have the commitment, passion, and required insanity to accomplish a life of thrift.
Sometimes it's good to throw things away.
