Non-Recycling Faux-Pas of the Summer

Portland, Oregon (June 2011): Man pees in water reservoir. District spends $30,000+ to drain the reservoir because of the "ick" factor.

That I can maybe understand, IF THE RESERVOIRS WERE PRISTINE TO BEGIN WITH! But no, the district's five reservoirs are open to the air, thus open to animal droppings, dead animals, swimming? But the reservoirs are never drained for these reasons.

Moral of the Story: Save your pee for your compost pile. If it's yellow, let it mellow.

  2. Like nobody has ever peed in a reservoir before. This is where all our do-goodiness is exposed. Portland is one of the "greenest" places around, and then something like this happens. Is our composting and recycling all to create a superior aesthetic or is it to bring justice to the whole earth? I can only imagine how stupid this would appear to someone from a place where water, peed in or otherwise, isn't taken for granted.
